Government notifies Wetland (Conservation and Management) Rules 2017.

Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change (MoEFCC) has notified new Wetland (Conservation and Management) Rules 2017 to prohibit range of activities in wetlands. The new rules will replace earlier rules notified in 2010.  Wetland  Wetland is transitional land between terrestrial and aquatic eco-systems where water table is usually at or near surface or it may be land covered by shallow water. It supports rich biodiversity and provides wide range of ecosystem services such as water storage, water purification, flood mitigation, erosion control, aquifer recharge etc. There are 115 wetlands officially identified by Central Government and of those 26 are identified as wetlands of international importance under Ramsar Convention (an international intergovernmental treaty for conservation of wetlands to which India is party).  Wetlands are threatened by reclamation and degradation due to activities like drainage and landfill, pollution, hydrological alteration,...

PM Modi launches Saubhagya Yojana, promises free electricity connections to 4 cr rural households. The Saubhagya Yojana will include access to electricity to all willing households, substitution to kerosene, improvement in educational and health services, improvement in communication and public safety. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday launched the Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana ‘Saubhagya’, the scheme for easy electricity to every household. Speaking at the launch of the s cheme, Modi announced that the government will provide free electricity connections to four crore rural homes so that the poor can have access to power. The decision will cost the government Rs 16,000 crore which will not be passed on to the poor, Modi said. He said the connections will be delivered at the doors of the rural poor for which they would not have to go after the government officials. Govt launches 'Pradhan Mantri LPG Panchayat' to boost PMUY:- Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Saturday launched the 'Pradhan Mantri LPG Panchayat' from Mota Ishanpur village here today and handed over free LPG connection to a beneficiary of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana. Addressing the public, the Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister said his government has so far provided LPG connection to 8.5 crore households in less than three years as against 14 crore connections pr ovided by the Congress government. Pradhan said LPG connection has empowered women and saved lives of lakhs of women who die due to health complications arising out of use of traditional means of fuel like wood. In the presence of Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, Pradhan handed over free LPG connection to the beneficiary of PMUY Kokilaben Parmar. She happens to be the third crore beneficiary under the scheme. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on 18th september launched Google's payment app- 'Tez'. Speaking on the occasion he lauded the app saying, " Tez by Google (is) perhaps the simplest form of monetary transactions. Stressing upon the need for digital transactions, Jaitley further said, " Tez by Google and other ecosystems will make a major change in the digital payments landscape in India". In an explainer put up by the verified Twitter handle of Google India, the tech giant claimed that Tez will enable money transfer directly from the bank accounts of customers, without them having to share their 'personal information'. The app will function on both Android and iOS platforms.

Bajrang Punia won gold in the men’s 65 kg category in the freestyle wrestling event at the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games after his opponent Daichi Takatani of Japan forfeited the tie. Bajrang had easy outing on the way to the golf. He began with an easy 12-1 win over Jarvissadam Tarkong of Palau in the opening round. He later trumped Farzad Amouzadkhalili of Iran by a 31-8 margin. Scientists have characterised wind and cloud patterns of the night side of planet Venus for the first time, and found that it behaves very differently from the part facing the Sun. The night side exhibits unexpected and previously-unseen cloud types, morphologies, and dynamics - some of which appear to be connected to features on the planet's surface. "This is the first time we've been able to characterise how the atmosphere circulates on the night side of Venus on a global scale," said Javier Peralta of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA). "While the atmospheric circulation on the planet's dayside has been extensively explored, there was still much to discover about the night side. We found that the cloud patterns there are different to those on the dayside, and influenced by Venus' topography," said Peralta, lead author of the study published in the journal Nature Astronomy.
