Chhath Puja/Chhath Parva is a festival, observed in Northern states of India, especially in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. This year Chhath puja falls on is 26th October on Thursday. Chhath means six in Bhojpuri language and observed on the sixth day of Kartik month according to Hindu Calendar.

Chhath Pooja is celebrated to thank Surya Devta (Sun) for his protection and to take their blessings for good health and happiness. According to the belief in the history of Chhath puja, Draupadi and Pandavas performed the Chhath puja and worshipped the God Sun. due to Chhath Puja of Surya devta, Draupadi’s all problems got vanishing and the Pandavas regained their lost kingdom. From that time onwards, the day of Chhath puja became a significant festival in the Hindu culture.

Government notifies Wetland (Conservation and Management) Rules 2017.

Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change (MoEFCC) has notified new Wetland (Conservation and Management) Rules 2017 to prohibit range of activities in wetlands. The new rules will replace earlier rules notified in 2010.  Wetland  Wetland is transitional land between terrestrial and aquatic eco-systems where water table is usually at or near surface or it may be land covered by shallow water. It supports rich biodiversity and provides wide range of ecosystem services such as water storage, water purification, flood mitigation, erosion control, aquifer recharge etc. There are 115 wetlands officially identified by Central Government and of those 26 are identified as wetlands of international importance under Ramsar Convention (an international intergovernmental treaty for conservation of wetlands to which India is party).  Wetlands are threatened by reclamation and degradation due to activities like drainage and landfill, pollution, hydrological alteration,...

Rajnish Kumar new SBI chairman as Arundhati Bhattacharya retires

Rajnish Kumar, 59, the senior most of the managing directors at State Bank of India (SBI), will become the 25th chairman of the country’s largest lender, succeeding Arundhati Bhattacharya, who is set to retire on 6 October. The government on Wednesday announced his appointment for three years. Kumar currently is in charge of retail banking at SBI. Kumar’s appointment comes at a time when SBI’s profitability is under strain because of ballooning bad loans and sluggish credit growth. At the end of June, the bank was weighed down by gross non-performing loans of Rs1.88 trillion. Gross bad loans account for almost one-tenth of its total advances. SBI is also the lead bank in a majority of the 40 cases referred for bankruptcy proceedings at the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT). “Asset quality is a challenge.
